Why We Start with Prayer: Keeping an Open Line of Communication with God

This week we are talking all about prayer on the “I Am Not Enough” Podcast.

Hosts Traci and Krysta share the importance of prayer and how the Lord asks us time and time again to pray to Him. They also give us insights on their own early insecurities with praying out loud and tips to overcome this. Luckily, they remind us, there isn’t one right way to pray. All the Lord asks is that we communicate with Him – He doesn’t mind if we are articulate or not. Just pray.

Topics covered in this episode:

-How many times the word “prayer” appears in the Bible and its various translations

-The many different ways Jesus asks us to communicate with Him including in verses Thessalonians 1:17 and Ephesians 6:17-18

-How praying before reading the scripture can benefit your understanding of His Word

-The “how, why, and when” of working prayer into your everyday life

-And where to start if you don’t know where to start with praying to God

We’d love to hear from you. Submit a prayer or episode topic request to iamnotenough.us and share this episode with one woman you know could benefit from weekly reflections of Christ.

Resources:

  • Krysta mentions the book “Praying God’s Word: Breaking Free from Spiritual Strongholds” by Beth Moore. This was a helpful tool in teaching her how to pray and to pray powerfully. You can find that on Amazon. Visit our website iamnotenough.us for a direct link.

Verses Mentioned (NIV):

  • 1 Thessalonians 4:17 – After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever.

  • Ephesians 6:17-18 – Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.

  • Roman 8:26 – In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans.

  • Psalm 23 – The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake. Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

  • We encourage you to read all of Mathew chapter 6.
